South New Zealand: Lake Tekapo

April 2015.

Autumn.

Less than 10°C and rather freezing at night.

It was such a right decision to move right to Lake Tekapo (after Christchurch) to kick start the South Island road trip. It was what R had wanted to witness for herself - the tranquillity and breathtaking view of New Zealand's South Island.

Though Lake Tekapo area is just a small village, there are just some many awesome experiences. First, it was the R's 1st encounter with the New Zealand's mountain ranges. To get even more amazing view, go up to Mt John Observatory.

Church of the Good Shepherd.

Looking ahead from Mt John Observatory.
Second, the group was just in time to attend a hard-to-come-by Sunday night service at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Waiting for Sunday night service to start. At peace and excited.
The content.
Third, enjoyed star gazing. Lake Tekapo is part of the dark sky reserve. Having come from a brightly lit city, it was simply amazing to look up to pitch-dark sky of glittering stars. Even though it was so chilly at night and no astronomy expert, the group retreated no further than its heated-sedan to marvel at galaxy.

Info:
Lake Tekapo is about 3hr drive from Christchurch.
Stop by Farlie for Farlie Bakehouse's delicious pies.
